A host of celebrities, each playing a short piece on the beautiful Steinway piano.  Prepare to be impressed, surprised and highly-entertained by the likes of: Tim Vine, Rachel Parris, Dr Adam Kay (‘This Is Going To Hurt’), Alistair McGowan, Tom Service, Sarah Walker (BBC Radio 3), Ben Cooper (bargain Hunt) and Giles Wood*

Rainer Hersch 'All Classical Music Explained'

Lucy Parham & Dame Harriet Walter – ‘I, Clara’

Interspersed with her piano works, as well as music by Brahms, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Chopin and Robert Schumann (played by Lucy Parham), this is a chance to hear the rarely heard story of composer and pianist Clara Schumann’s extraordinary life.  Over 60 years, Clara Wieck Schumann gave over 1500 concerts, was a devoted wife to Robert Schumann (with whom she had 8 children) as he declined into mental illness and she composed numerous chamber, choral and solo piano works, as well as determining the format of the piano recital still familiar to us today.

Told in her own words, read by Dame Harriet Walter (The Crown, Killing Eve, Succession) in a show devised by Lucy Parham herself

Mark Bebbington - Best of British Part 1

The Germans once called England ‘Das Land Ohne Musik’ (‘The Country Without Music’).  Today, Worcestershire-born Mark Bebbibgton (and tomorrow, David Owen Norris), will try to prove them wrong.  Mark will talk about and play music by William Alwyn, Doreen Carwithen, John Ireland and contemporary composer, Ian Venables, to show that English music has a lot to offer!

Tyler Hay - 'Better Than Beethoven'

Rising star, Tyler Hay, returns to Ludlow after thrilling the audience with his scintillating playing and his uniquely witty presentation at St Laurence’s last autumn.

He will play pieces by some of Beethoven’s lesser-known contemporaries: Kalkbrenner, Thalberg, Clementi, Field and Czerny.

Tyler shines a light on masterpieces too often overlooked and overshadowed by Beethoven but will close the concert with Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.

Christina McMaster - 'Lie Down and Listen'

After her stunning concert last year that had Palmers Hall practically shaking, Christina returns with a much gentler affair.  She will bring 60 mattresses (or you can bring your won yoga mat) and ask you to lie down and relax as she plays a selection of soothing classical pieces.  Her repertoire will include Byrd, Rachmaninov, Cage and Debussy.  An unforgettable shared experience and the perfect end to a busy day!

Christina McMaster - 'How We Listen'

Christina returns to talk about the nature of how we listen to music – guiding the listener to an awareness of deep listening states, the yoga of listening and even how to listen to silence.

Tomos Boyles - 'Young Artist Recital'

Tomos is an exciting young Welsh pianist who has performed in numerous prestigious venues including the Wales Millennium Centre.  He was awarded the first prize at the Wales International Piano Festival and is currently postgraduate student at the Royal Academy of Music.
