After accompanying our silent films for the last two years, this time Martin returns with his jazz trio playing their own smooth and mellow compositions from their last album. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon between the classics.
Small Blue is a piano trio in the classic modern jazz tradition, featuring material including straight ahead swinging tunes and beautiful ballads , as well as African inspired grooves – but always with a twist, featuring sensational pianist David Beebee and bass player Marianne Windham, a recent winner at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards, and leader, drummer/composer Martin Pyne. The band will play tracks from their new album Furrow, referencing a range of literary and cinematic inspirations that will take younon a journey from the world of Film Noir, to Japanese Zen gardens, via ancient Arthurian legends, and even Humphrey Bovart and Dorothy Malone in a flirtatious mood.. Expect music that is by turns lyrical, atmospheric, groovy, and mischievous. The trio have recently been gigging across the country, and picking up great reviews:
“Small Blue might be led by a drummer but this is one of the best ‘piano trio’ albums that I’ve heard in a long time” JAZZMAN
Martin Pyne composer / drums
David Beebee piano
Marianne Windham bass
