What is Pop-Up…
Pop-Up is a two day, winter celebration of piano music which tries always to bring a ‘straight’ classical concert alongside something more quirky.
During the day of each concert, we take the cover off the wonderful Steinway at St Laurence’s and allow local – and not so local – talented amateurs the chance to play it, casually, throughout the day in booked 20-minute sessions while the cafe remains open.
It’s a unique opportunity to play a wonderful instrument which brings pianists and their families to the town and brings some beautiful music to the church for any passers-through to enjoy for as long as they choose to!
Previous Pop-Up concerts have included: Strictly Piano, Sounds of The Cinema, Junior Piano (hosted by Harry Hill) and a recital from Jenebah Kanneh-Mason.

In a wonderfully varied programme, leading pianist, Cordelia, brings us a Bach Partita, Janacek’s In The Mists, several of Prokofiev’s Visions Fugitifs and several Mazurkas by Chopin.

The return of Scipione Sangiovanni who delighted a full house when he closed our second piano festival with his incredible ability to interweave highly dexterous playing of Bach and Purcell with ‘banging’ tunes by Radiohead and Nirvana!
